Calabrio Hosts an Hour of Code

Hour of Code comes to Calabrio

Last week Calabrio participated in the global Hour of Code campaign with 60 students from Visitation High School. The group, comprised of freshman to senior girls, completed an Hour of Code exercise with Software Engineer Chris Jordan. They also heard from Calabrio employees about various career opportunities in tech, ranging from engineering to marketing.

Calabrio and Visitation joined more than 500 Minnesota schools who participated in an Hour of Code, an initiative organised by Code.org that gives tens of millions of students worldwide the opportunity to learn computer science during the week of December 7–13.

By 2020, it is predicted that there will be 1.4 million computing jobs and only 400,000 computer science students to fill those jobs. With less than 2.4 percent of today’s college graduates earning a degree in computer science, it is becoming more important than ever to expose students to computer science early on. Calabrio is dedicated to helping students uncover the exciting opportunities in tech and encouraging skills–such as coding–that build a foundation for success in any career path they want to pursue.
